Large bore incremental encoders are specifically designed to be inserted straight over shafts on the back end of larger motors. Their lower IP Rating is a result of the friction produced with the larger rotational surface area involved. Hence, the reason for a lower seal rating. However, when suitably mounted and protected, they can be used very successfully in most industrial applications.
